It’s All On You Now

No one else is going to make you do it.

The dropout rate for online courses for some platforms are as high as 94%. Why? Because when things get challenging, nobody really wants to force themselves to continue.

Of course, when in a job or classroom, you can’t really just walk out and quit like that. It’s weird to walk into a gym and decide it’s just worth leaving. The cost of just showing up makes it worth staying. And at other times, the social cost of that is much higher.

But as we begin to work remotely, that pressure is gone. It’s pretty convenient to watch Netflix on the side. You don’t break a sweat (and perhaps are trying to save some) by cutting your home workout early.

There’s still deadlines and obligations we have to adhere to. But the feeling of effort won’t be put on you the same as you showing up.

That means it’s up to you to show up for yourself. To pay attention during Zoom. To stay on track with you work. To put your all your effort in.

Otherwise, the mental tendency will be no different than when in an online class, and we’ll be looking for any way out.
