Getting Lost In the Waves

Getting Lost In the Waves

How easy is it to find yourself swamped by the work you have to do?

It could be a lot of homework assigned. It could be a project you’re leading. It could be the clients you have to meet.

And during those times we think it’s ok to sacrifice a little bit of something else. Maybe it’s ok to just skip the gym for today. Maybe it’s ok to take away some sleep from our schedule. Maybe it’s ok to miss a post today. Maybe it’s ok to pass on family time.

Sacrifices are always necessary. But only for the things that matter. And maybe what we are sacrificing the things that matter themselves. Our health, relationships, and commitments are long-term values that we’ve created for ourselves. Those should never be taken away for the sake of short-term gains.

Or maybe those aren’t your long-term values. It doesn’t matter to me what you do value though. I’m not here to convince you to sacrifice something specific.

I’m here to convince you to not get lost in the waves. Because when you do, you suddenly are just looking to at what’s in front of you. Barely breathing from the ruckus being thrown at you.

But when you organize yourself, you realize that you’re the one creating the waves. You’re the one who’s making the ruckus. And when you calm down, you’ll see the water is still on it’s own. And you can swim in it just fine, knowing where you’re going.

Look at what you value. Focus yourself on those things. Everything else becomes still on its own.
